The Students

  • plan and implement the steps of an empirical research process
  • work effectively in a team
  • identify and specify a relevant research question
  • collect data appropriate to validly answer a research question
  • analyze data with appropriate statistical tools
  • interpret, discuss, and criticize their results in line with their research question
  • present their research in a written paper and in an oral academic presentation
  • discuss and constructively criticize their own and others’ research

The knowledge and skills acquired are essential for any leadership position in both business and academia.

Module Exam

The module-related examination consists of a research paper (usually max. 30.000 characters without spaces; 60% of the grade) and a presentation part (consisting of usually 15 minutes of presentation of the own paper, 10 minutes Q&A regarding the own paper, and 5 minutes discussion of another paper; 40% of the grade).

Preliminary knowledge

Students are assumed to have solid knowledge of general business administration, management and leadership, and/or organization. A sufficient level of spoken and written English language skills is necessary. Basic statistical skills are helpful to understand other papers and make adequate choices in the data analysis.

Abstract

The research seminar helps students develop the knowledge and skills to independently and critically analyze and answer a practically and scientifically relevant research question from the area of behavioral management control research.

Selected topics from behavioral management control research; the concrete topic is announced at the beginning of the seminar.
