Students taking this course

  • get to know the structure and the most important parts of the health care systems of different regions such as Germany, United Kingdom, Eastern Europe, and the USA

Relevance

The identification of differences, best practices, advantages and disadvantages between health care systems in different regions allows to individuate potential deficits and areas for improvement.

Module Exam

In order to pass the course students are obliged to write and submit a term paper (usually 10-15 pages).

Die Prüfung in diesem Modul darf nicht abgelegt werden, wenn "Gesundheitssysteme" bereits bestanden ist.

Preliminary knowledge

Good knowledge of microeconomics required.

Abstract

This course gives an overview about different health care systems and equips students with the tools to critically evaluate and compare different health care systems.

Contents

  • Overview about health care systems in different regions
  • Supply and demand of health care in the different systems
  • Strength and weaknesses of the different markets are discussed
  • Students learn to critically compare different health systems within the term paper
